Chaos Champion of Khorne w/t Chaos Chalice

I have no idea where this idea came from. I think it was while reading the Chaos Codex equipment list, and the description of the Chaos Chalice. This was actually the first conversion I finished, even though the Blood Dragon was the first entry I completed.

But for a long time this guy lay "dormant" on my workbench. The paintjob wasn't going well at all, and there were mold line problems on the tiny horns that were hard to fix.  I also painted this guy with a metallic gold base, then a NMM base, then BACK to metallic! Doh! I just felt more comfortable working in metallics on it. And honestly, I don't hate them like some people do. NMM is great, but not every figure has to use it.

The chalic is from Corbulo, with a bottom part made from a Chaos Marauder horn guy (instrument player - whatever he was holding).  The left arm is a Marauder arm.  The head is the Chaos Champion head.  The base is obviously the original Khorne champ base, but with a few skulls added to it..

The flag was the hardest part for me. I had highlited it wonderfully, and it was in place etc before I decided to add graphics to it. As mentioned before I suck at freehand, but I *really* suck at freehanding at an awkward angle and small spaces!  Luckily, it turned out reasonably well (The Khorne icon is admittedly a bit iffy).  Blood and dirt were added to make it look like a big-time battle banner.

This guy is a pain to photograph. The reds actually go all the way up to "Fiery Orange" (the bright one, anyway - whatever it's called) but in the pictures I take that doesn't come through well.  Notice that the horns are glossed but the rest of the figure is matte (spot glossing).

The blood is of course my favorite part, although it's a love-hate relationship. I love the coloring and shine of it, and the "texture".  I hate the varying thickness and the borderline impossible angle it is falling at.

It was made using colored epoxy poured down a puttied paperclip which is anchored at the cup end and the base. The problem (and the reason the thickness is goofy) is the epoxy dries slowly and kept running up and down the darn wire lol :)

The base looks totally weird from behind in this shot - it must be the angle lol.
